Muksu Whitewater Kayak Expedition

This is a future proposal only. We currently do not offer this expedition until all the logistics details are made completely clear (presumably in the fall 2005).
This is an extremely demanding trip combining difficult whitewater at high altitude in very remote and completely uninhabited region.

| Day 1-2. | Arrive Dushanbe, drive (or possibly fly) to Khorog town.
|

| Day 3. | Warm-up on the lower Gunt River near Khorog (Class 4/4+). One-day light boats run, road is along the river.

| Day 4. | Drive over numerous 4000+ m passes to Kara-Kul Lake in the Eastern Pamirs, located at the altitude of 3900 m (12800 ft) above sea level.

| Day 5. | Acclimatization. Drive from Kara-Kul Lake to near the Takhtakorum Pass.

| Day 6. | Trek over the Takhtakorum Pass (4555 m, 14945 ft) to the put-in on the Belandkiik River, the tributary of the Muksu at the altitude of 4300 m (14100 ft). This starts a 7(8)-day completely self-support run in a nearly lost corner of the Pamirs.

| Day 7-9. | Paddle the Belandkiik River till Muksu confluence (Class 3-4).

| Day 10. | Paddle the Muksu River from near its source from Fedchenko Glacier to the entrance into the Muksu Gorges (Class 1-3).

| Day 11-12. | Paddle the gorges of the Muksu till Surkhob confluence (Class 5 (5+)).
|

| Day 13. | Spare day.
|
|---|
| Day 14. | Drive back to Dushanbe.
