Matcha / Iskander / Fann-Darya Whitewater Kayak Expedition

Start from/return to:	Dushanbe or Khujand

Day 1.	Arrive Dushanbe/Khujand, drive over the Anzob Pass (from Dushanbe) or the Shakhriston Pass (from Khujand) to the Matcha valley.
Day 2-3.	Paddle stupendous gorges of the lower Matcha River (Class 3-4). Light boats run, road is along (but high above) the river. Drive to Iskander-Kul Lake.
Day 4.	Trekking in the hills surrounding this magnificent lake. There are options for many multi-day treks in the neighbor Fann Mountains too.
Day 5-6.	Paddle the Iskander-Darya River down to its confluence with the Yagnob (Class 4/4+ (5)). 2-day light boats run, road is along (but sometimes high above) the river.
Day 7.	Paddle the Fann-Darya River down to its confluence with the Matcha and to Aini village (Class 4/4+ (5)). One-day light boats run, road is along the river.
Day 8.	Drive back to Dushanbe/Khujand.

Pyanj Tributaries Whitewater Kayak Expedition

Duration:	8-10 days
Difficulty:	Class 4-5
Timeframe:	Late August - September
Location:	Pamirs, Central Asia, Tajikistan
Expedition style:	Multiday light boats runs
Accommodation:	Camp (staying at local houses is also generally possible)
Start from/return to:	Dushanbe

Day 1.	Arrive Dushanbe, drive to the Obikhingou valley.
Day 2.	Warm-up on in the Lower Gorge of the Obikhingou River (Class 4/4+). Light boats run, road is along the river.
Day 3.	Drive over the Kailakhum Pass to the Pyanj valley and to the road head on the Yazgulem River
Day 4.	Trek up the Yazgulem valley from the road head (half-day) and paddle the river back (Class 4).
Day 5.	Paddle the lower Yazgulem River (Class 4-5) from the road head till Pyanj confluence. Light boats run, road is along the river. Drive to Khorog town.
Day 6-7.	Drive up the Shakhdara valley, paddle the Shakhdara River back to Khorog (Class 4/4+). Light boats run, road is along the river.
Day 8-9.	Drive up the Gunt valley, paddle the Gunt River back to Khorog (Class 4/4+). Light boats run, road is along the river.
Day 10.	Drive (or possibly fly) back to Dushanbe.

Muksu Whitewater Kayak Expedition

Duration:	12-14 days
Difficulty:	Class 5 (5+)
Timeframe:	Late September - Early October
Location:	Pamirs, Central Asia, Tajikistan
Expedition style:	Multiday self-support run
Accommodation:	Camp
Start from/return to:	Dushanbe

This is a future proposal only. We currently do not offer this expedition until all the logistics details are made completely clear (presumably in the fall 2005).

This is an extremely demanding trip combining difficult whitewater at high altitude in very remote and completely uninhabited region.

Day 1-2.	Arrive Dushanbe, drive (or possibly fly) to Khorog town.
Day 3.	Warm-up on the lower Gunt River near Khorog (Class 4/4+). One-day light boats run, road is along the river.
Day 4.	Drive over numerous 4000+ m passes to Kara-Kul Lake in the Eastern Pamirs, located at the altitude of 3900 m (12800 ft) above sea level.
Day 5.	Acclimatization. Drive from Kara-Kul Lake to near the Takhtakorum Pass.
Day 6.	Trek over the Takhtakorum Pass (4555 m, 14945 ft) to the put-in on the Belandkiik River, the tributary of the Muksu at the altitude of 4300 m (14100 ft). This starts a 7(8)-day completely self-support run in a nearly lost corner of the Pamirs.
Day 7-9.	Paddle the Belandkiik River till Muksu confluence (Class 3-4).
Day 10.	Paddle the Muksu River from near its source from Fedchenko Glacier to the entrance into the Muksu Gorges (Class 1-3).
Day 11-12.	Paddle the gorges of the Muksu till Surkhob confluence (Class 5 (5+)).
Day 13.	Spare day.
Day 14.	Drive back to Dushanbe.
